Masters Tournament Starts on Thursday

Well it’s April, and for every golfing fan it is our favorite time of year when the first of four major kicks off this Thursday, that being the Masters tournament. The Masters tournament in the past 10 years have produced some of the most fantastic finishes such as Rory McIlrory’s epic collapse on Sunday, to Tiger Woods epic chip shot on the 16th hole, to Bubba Watson’s “bend shot” around the tree and Jordan’s Spieth wire to wire win last year.

The Masters tournament is also famous to “Amen’s Corner” at August National.

Why is it called Amen Corner? A sports writer named Herbert Warren Wind gave the monicker “Amen Corner” to holes 11, 12, and 13 because of the spectacular way in which Arnold Palmer played those holes on the final day of the 1958 tournament.

At “Amen Corner,” tournaments are won or lost on Sunday.

Just ask Rory McIlroy a few years ago on Sunday, who blew a 5 shot lead on Sunday to lose the Masters for his first major championship.

The Masters Tournament also provided a first for Major Champions such as Bubba Watson, Zach Johnson, Louis Oosthuizen, Phil Mickelson and of course Jordan Spieth, winner of a green jacket as last year’s champion. In 2016, coming into this tournament, Jason Day and Adam Scott are probably the two hottest golfers. Jason Day won the WGC Dell Match play championship, while Adam Scott won twice in Florida at Bay Hill and the Honda Classic. To me Jason Day, I would have to make him the early favorite for the tournament. Would this year’s tournament provide more drama at the end, produce a first time winner or would another crafty veteran win the Masters tournament this weekend?

Tune in on Thursday to see the tournament all the way through the final round on Sunday.
