Mychal Kendricks Return-to-Form Gives Defense New Dimension

Three months ago, Mychal Kendricks was a popular choice for the “Eagle most likely to be released/traded.” He even admitted he wanted to be released, but the Eagles decided to hold on to him.

So far, that’s panning out.

Last Sunday, Kendricks tipped an Eli Manning pass that lead to an interception (Eli throwing interceptions? Inconceivable.) He also did a solid job helping to shut down the Giants rushing attack, which helped the Eagles dominate time of possession (Philadelphia controlled the ball for nearly 38 minutes.)

He was second on the team in tackles (six) and drew the highest defensive grade from

This is the best Kendricks has played since 2014 when he appeared to be a future defensive star. Since then, he has been a bit of a disappointment. Last season, he barely played in 33% of the teams total defensive snaps and when he saw the field, he frequently missed tackles.

I believe that the fact that the Eagles fielded little-to-no interest in Kendricks was a wake-up call. He looks like a different player: He’s playing more downhill and sniffs out the ball when it comes his way. He looks like…well… a real linebacker.

Next up for Kendricks and the the Eagles? They

face the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday at 4 PM.
