WWE: Who Should AJ Styles Feud with Heading into Summerslam

AJ Styles

The WWE Championship scene on Smackdown is interesting now. It’s known that the AJ Styles/Shinsuke Nakamura feud is done. This was after AJ Styles was able to defeat Nakamura in every match at WrestleMania 34, Backlash, and Money in the Bank. At Extreme Rules, we will be getting AJ Styles defending the WWE Championship against Rusev. While I expect them to not feud long, the WWE will need to figure out what do with the title heading into Summerslam.

As of now there happens to be a few possible scenarios that the WWE could go down that would make for a decent match at Summerslam. As of now, you have Samoa Joe, The Miz, Andrade “Cien” Almas, and a few others. For starters, you can take Almas off that list. He was just brought up to the main roster and hasn’t done anything that would put him in the title picture for now. I’m not saying that he won’t be in the title scene at some point down the road. I just don’t see it happening right away. Right now the two likely options for the WWE to go are the Miz or Samoa Joe.

The Miz is someone who deserves another shot at the title. Prior to the brand split 2.0, he was being held in the mid-card area. He has put on some of the best heel work in a long time. It’s also worth mentioning that he is a true heel as he does get booed. I could see a good program between those two.

In addition, having the Miz feud with AJ Styles could lead to a program between the Miz and Daniel Bryan for later in 2018. Samoa Joe is another one who presents a good option. While they haven’t crossed paths in singles action while in the WWE, they had a storied rivalry in TNA. They also have the chemistry, so you know the matches will be good. After the Nakamura feud fell flat with AJ Styles, the WWE needs a rebound for his next program heading into Summerslam.
